The company was started in 2007 by Christian Wiklund and Niklas Lindstrom as a way to help people make easier social and business connections using their mobile devices. This type of technology was quite ahead of its time nine years ago. The pair kept a close watch on their statistical data and noticed that the overwhelming majority of its users, 80% to be exact, where making love connections rather than business communications. They became an Andreessen Horowitz company in 2012 for a venture capital investment of $22 million which helped them to take off and grow even more. SKOUT continues to grow and expand with new features to its app and the acquisition of companies like Nixter.

The SKOUT app can be accessed in 16 different languages and in over 180 different countries and in 2015 SKOUT announced that it had reached 10 million members, making it the largest social media app of its kind in the world.
